Golden days ahead for Texas golf vacation resorts

8. Golden days ahead for Texas golf vacation resorts

Golf tourism looks like it is bracing for a boom in Texas. Many premier golf development projects are well underway in the Lone Star state, particularly at its western border.

All these are in addition to the thousand or so courses of golf vacation resorts that have mushroomed in the past in Texas. Bookings for tourists to these cities almost always cover itineraries to the world-famous golfing havens now gracing Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.

At Austin, among the city’s sources of pride are the four Barton Creek layouts: Crenshaw Cliffside, Fazio Canyons, Fazio Foothills and Palmer Lakeside. Environment-friendly best describes Crenshaw as the area’s natural contours of hills and plateaus, with its plant life, were cleverly melded into a championship course that stands winsome even to the most critical of visitors. The Dallas Morning News ranked this masterpiece of a layout as among the ’50 Best Courses in Texas”.

Another Texan golf course which has won much-deserved platitude is the Barton Creek Fazio Canyons likewise dedicated to environmental protection and preservation. This 7,153-yard, par-72 course has been enshrined under the Certified Audubon Sanctuary System, one of the first in the US to have earned such a designation.

A growing epicentre of the golfing world indeed Texas has become. At the PGA Tour’s map, four legs have fallen squarely within the Lone Star: Humble for the Shell Houston Open, Irving for EDS Byron Nelson Championship, Forth Worth for the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, and San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Four events heralding loud the coming golden age of golf vacation resorts of Texas.
